Recommended items for purchase:
Get to know Roatan's Marine wildlife with a scheduled stop at Roatan's Marine Turtle Sanctuary. Here you will learn about green turtles, sea turtles, nurse sharks and other fish that have been rescued and are in the processes of reinsertion back into their natural habitat.
Once we arrive at Punta Gorda, we will dive deep into the rich culture and history of the Garifuna people. Here you will get a walking tour of the community, seeing the homes, beaches and one of the oldest communities of the island.
Included in this stop is the opportunity to taste fish empanadas, the garifuna cassava bread made from the cassava root and even natural juices and Gifiti (garifuna rum). If you desire you have the option to purchase gifiti to take with you on the ship.
We will stop at one of the premium restaurants in all of Roatan. The best part is that it is on the water and right next to the Mangroves. This popular destination is popular for its great food and peculiar decor.
Either before or after you have had your fill, we will go out into the water and have a tour around Oakridge and Jonesville. These communities are still quite representative of the old ways of the island and its peoples. In many ways they show what Roatan was and should be.
Participants must be in good physical shape to climb in and out of boat.
There are beautiful spots of turquoise water and white sand near the mangroves where our guests can enjoy themselves and go for a refreshing dip. This activity can be done after or before their lunch.
After our dip, we will dry ourselves up and get ready for our return to our original pick-up location or location of your choosing. We can make bathroom stops along the way, but we have to consider that the drive from the East Side can take over one hour with traffic.
Special Note: Cruise Ship guests should be mindful of their ship's departure time. When doing this tour, we aim for a 2-hour drop-off time before their ship's departure.
By booking the East End Nature & Culture: Sloths, Turtles & Mangroves tour, participants agree to the following Terms & Conditions. These policies ensure guest safety, proper coordination, and a smooth tour experience.
Participants must be in good physical condition and able to safely enter and exit the boat without assistance.
Weather conditions in the East End can change quickly. If boating activities or the mangrove visit become unsafe or impossible due to weather, we will provide an alternative activity of equal or greater value.
No refunds will be issued for weather-related changes as long as an equivalent alternative is provided.
Interactions with sloths, turtles, or other animals are regulated by the parks and sanctuaries we visit. Guests must follow all rules and understand that animal interactions are never guaranteed.
